Dec 18, 2018 · It takes a heck of a lot of force to bend a Chevy crank. Only the most skilled machine shops can straighten a mildly bent crank. IIRC it takes something like a 50 ton press to do so. If you were not so lucky, then at minimum you will require an oil pan gskt, timing cover gskt, water pump gskts, another crank with bearings at the least.. The connecting rod pin on the crankshaft will eventually wear enough to require a replacement crank after years of use. The shaft is cast as one piece of steel, and much of the engine must be disassembled to get it out. Lawnmower engines in the 3 to 6-HP range require very similar procedures for crankshaft removal.
